Joe over at the evangelical outpost posted recently regarding the contemporary manifestations of slavery in the world today.
In 2004, the U.S. Government estimated that of the 600,000 to 800,000 men, women, and children trafficked across international borders each year, approximately 80 percent are women and girls, and up to 50 percent are minors. The data also demonstrated that the majority of transnational victims were trafficked into commercial sexual exploitation.

So what is the solution? Well, for starters awareness of the problem needs to spread.
Consider yourself aware…

Is it time to get out? Ted Galen Carpenter from the Cato Institute makes an interesting case by comparing the time in Iraq to the time the U.S. was engaged in World War II.
The U.S. mission in Iraq has now lasted longer than America’s involvement in World War II. That should be an occasion for sober reflection. In less than four years — from 1941 to 1945 — the United States and its allies managed to defeat two of the most powerful militaries in the world. By contrast, today, we are still mired in an endless conflict in a single small country after the same amount of time. Those who helped get America into the Iraq quagmire denounce any proposal for withdrawal as “cut and run.” Now that we have passed the World War II milestone, we must demand that the hawks be specific about their strategy. Vacuous statements such as “we will stand down when the Iraqis can stand up” or “we must stay until the job is done” will not suffice.

A lot has happened in the last three years since I started blogging. I was the father of two children, now three. I was the interim music director at my church, now the director of worship ministries. I was employed by the software company in which I am now a partner. I was not in school then, but now working on my M.A.
Whew! No wonder I haven’t blogged as much in year 3 as I did in years 1 and 2. Well, wish me a happy blogaversary and I’ll try to be better about actually posting this year.

Wow, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I didn’t think it was for real, but apparently it is.
“Why Mommy is a Democrat”
I thought it was pretty benign at first, but then I took a look at the sample pages.
What I find the most scarry is how blatant the book is about the apparent goal of the Democratic Party. If the book is accurate, then the goal is for the government to parent you.
Perhaps a more pertintent title would be “Why the Democrats Want to Be Your Mommy.”

Answer:
A lot! Family, work, church ministry and seminary all add up to a very full schedule. We hired a new guy at work who has helped take a load off and this has alleviated my workload a bit. I’m halfway through my first quarter back in school and I already can’t wait for Christmas Break! The kids are growing fast, Kaitlyn lost her two front teeth over the weekend:
I’ve lot’s more to tell, but not enough time to tell it. Until next time…

The Daily Mail (a British news magazine) is waking up to the sadly obvious: ‘Machines will rule if we don’t curb surveillance’.
The Information Commissioner stressed that while much of the current data collected on individuals was “fragmented”, the real danger to individual freedoms would come if all this information was gathered under a “Big Brother” regime.
“Two years ago I said ‘are we in danger of sleep walking into a surveillance society’. Our report commissioned from external experts really says we are already there. We are waking up to a surveillance society,” he said on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
George Orwell may have been off by a couple of decades (1984), but his prophetic tellings appear to be coming true. And in the very country he anticipated this happening.
Huxley’s dystopia is revealing as well: brave new world.
Let’s hope it isn’t too late to prove Orwell and Huxley wrong.
