Car Crash x2

Posted in Business and Economy at 11:17 am by Jeff

As if the danger of a physical crash wasn’t enough while driving, now Microsoft wants you to run a version of Windows to control your car!

Car crazy: Microsoft in the driver’s seat

This could bring new (tragic) meaning to the phrase “blue screen of death…”

Role Model

Posted in Faith and Practice at 11:56 am by Jeff

Months ago, a friend at church had been persistently telling me what a “good role model” I was. He lamented that his upbringing fell short in training him to be a godly person. Feeling more like a “chief of sinners” than a role model, I needed to respond. I had forgotten my response, but when my friend e-mailed me back today (months later), he included my original e-mail text.

I am a wicked, evil, depraved sinner (in my flesh). My parents raising me a certain way was a good influence, but God knew me before I was born and formed me in the womb and chose me to be his child through no good of my own. (See II Thess. 2:13-14, Eph. 2:8-9, Romans 9:10-24).

So we owe it all to God and not because of anything in ourselves or our parents or even our circumstances (except for the fact that God ordained our circumstances to mold our hearts to prepare them to receive him). “I know that in me, that is in my flesh, nothing good can dwell” (Rom. 7:18).

I just want to be more like Christ every day. That is the desire of my heart, but my flesh (sinful nature, human effort) cannot accomplish this for me. All I can do is lay down my life, my heart, my soul, and ask “God, make me more like your Son today.” Will you join me in making that your daily, moment by moment prayer?

I wrote this months ago, but I needed this reminder. Perhaps you do too.

Blasts Kill 30 on Egypt-Israeli Border

Posted in Politics and Issues at 4:33 pm by Jeff

AP Correspondent Sarah El Deeb has either caught Egyptian officials making an awful gaffe, or she has made one herself.

CAIRO, Egypt - Three explosions shook popular resorts on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Thursday night as many Israelis vacationed at the close of a Jewish holiday. Officials said at least 30 people were killed and 114 wounded, and witnesses gave unconfirmed reports that all three explosions were caused by car bombs…

The explosion could be heard and felt strongly a mile away, said Selma Abu el-Dahab, who works at another Taba hotel. She said a worker from her hotel returned from the Hilton and told of the blast before collapsing.

However, Egyptian officials said they had no evidence of terrorism.

If this isn’t terrorism, what is?

Environmentalists Caught Doing Good

Posted in Science and Technology, Politics and Issues, Culture and Ideas, Business and Economy at 11:42 am by Jeff

Environmentalists often take up causes based on spurious scientific evidence and/or belief the the “equality” of man and beast. However, they’re hitting the nail on the head with proposing a deep sea trawling ban. The practice of ripping up the ocean floor searching for small delicacies is a practice that is causing irreparable long-term harm to the oceanic ecosystem.

Deep sea trawling is performed by dragging a net across the ocean floor and raking up everything in the net’s path.

But such was the indiscriminate nature of their methods that 95 percent of the material caught by the steel nets dragged along the seabed at depths of up to 1.2 miles was simply thrown overboard again, dead, destroyed or dying.

Finally, an environmental cause I can get behind 100%.
