X-Prize Update
If Rutan and team are able to duplicate today’s successful launch within two weeks, it will mark the beginning of the private space race. Scaled Composites will claim the $10 millon prize, but this will not be the end for the X-Prize. Ansari X-Prize is planning an annual X-Prize cup described thus:
An event where the average person can come and watch the next generations of space vehicles fly, where they can talk to the astronuts, see the vehicles up close, learn about the technology, and begin to dissolve the myth that they will never travel to space in their lifetime.
The cry of my generation was (sadly) “I want my MTV.” How about this instead: “I want my Rocketship Trip?”
