If Rutan and team are able to duplicate today’s successful launch within two weeks, it will mark the beginning of the private space race. Scaled Composites will claim the $10 millon prize, but this will not be the end for the X-Prize. Ansari X-Prize is planning an annual X-Prize cup described thus:
An event where the average person can come and watch the next generations of space vehicles fly, where they can talk to the astronuts, see the vehicles up close, learn about the technology, and begin to dissolve the myth that they will never travel to space in their lifetime.
The cry of my generation was (sadly) “I want my MTV.” How about this instead: “I want my Rocketship Trip?”

It looks like Scaled Composites and Mojave Aerospace Ventures, LLC are poised to claim the Ansari X-Prize. With a planned launch date of September 29th, they’ll have to turn around and perform a second launch by October 13th in order to claim the $10 million prize.
Godspeed.

My daughter has been throwing up since two in the morning. We got an appointment with the doctor for 10AM. As we were sitting in the waiting room, I thought I was beginning to feel dizzy. Turns out it was the 5.9 magnitude earthquake 17 miles NE of Paso Robles.
Hopefully my daughter will get better soon because I’m sleepy.

For years we’ve heard the accusations: Bush dodged Vietnam service, Bush didn’t fulfill his duties to the TANG, yada-yada-yada. We’ve endured the past couple weeks of CBS coverups as they attempted to save face after they were “misled” by fake documents. These are the same stories dug up during the 2000 election campaign; none of these attacks are new. Apparently the opposition can’t come up with anything better on which to attack the President. Now, they are really in trouble as new information surfaces showing that then-Lieutenant Bush not only fulfilled his duties, but offered to go beyond the call of his commission.
“The man who swore then-Lieutenant George Bush into the Air National Guard, is rising to the President’s defense…”

Want a ride to space? It’s not going to be cheap.

It always cracks me up with the government refers to taxes collected as “revenue.” Here’s some more of that bad logic:
House-Senate negotiators late Wednesday approved extending three popular middle class tax cuts… The tax breaks are estimated to cost the government $145.9 billion over 10 years.
“Cost the government?” How about this: “The tax breaks are estimated to keep 145.9 billion dollars in the hands of taxpayers and out of the government coffers.”

Senator Miller takes issue with his detractors and reiterates his argument against John Kerry:
John Kerry and his crowd derisively call American troops “occupiers” because it fits with their warped belief that America is the problem, not the solution. While more than 50 million people in Afghanistan and Iraq are enjoying freedom, Mr. Kerry is still fretting over whether the U.N. crowd likes us or not. The American people will not abide a commander in chief who gets squeamish over America’s role as a liberating force in the world.

AP News and CBS News have stooped to new lows in their blatant anti-Bush propaganda push. Hindrocket at Power Line compares the willingness of Big Media to sacrifice its reputation to the willingness of Islamic Radicals to commit suicide for a cause.
So we have entered a new era. We now know that our richest and most powerful news organizations are willing to blow themselves up–to destroy their own credibility, once considered a news organization’s most precious possession–to achieve a political goal.

Mark Steyn demonstrates that having the media on “his side” is actually hurting John Kerry’s campaign.
George W. Bush ought to wake up every morning and thank the Lord the media aren’t on his side.
CBS falls for Kerry campaign’s fake memo from Mark Steyn at the Chicago Sun-Times.

Is this the beginning of the end for Internet Explorer?
This summer the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity wing suggested that people use a different browser to deal with Internet Explorer’s continuing security flaws. Could this be the beginning of the end for Microsoft’s Web browser dominance?
Don’t bet on it…
