Schwarzenegger Popular with 2/3 of Californians
Californians are loving the Governator:
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger enjoys strong popularity in California, with nearly two thirds of voters approving of his performance, according to a poll released on Tuesday.
The Democrat-dominated state legislature registered a 33 percent approval rating. The Field Poll had a plus or minus 4.1 percent margin of error.
My question is this: if the Democrat dominated legislature only has a 33% approval rating, why do Californians keep electing Democrats to the state house?

That’s a good question. This is just speculation, but it may possibly be due to a combination of gerrymandered districts and a GOP controlled by the far right. Still, it’s easy to envision major GOP gains in the Cali legislature this year and in 2006.
Anyone know if we could take a house or two?

Hmm.
One thing I remember from the early 90s, when the Democrats controlled the House of Reps, is that something like 75% of voters were dissatisfied with Congress, but 80% of voters were happy with their own Congressmen.
Pork is powerful.
That’s the problem with legislatures. There’s collective responsibility, and people are slow to blame problems on their own representatives.
